I realize some folks love to attack “the media,” (verbally and physically) especially when news is reported that doesn’t echo their views. If you are among those who insult journalists who, often at great risk, work hard to answer your questions, do so on your own page. I’m sharing a post from one of my young co-workers. She’s a shining example of what I’ve seen in my media workplace for more than 30 years. No one tells us what to say, except for when our company president said to simply “Do the Right Thing.” We try to do that each day. We are not perfect, but we keep trying. I’ll let my young friend take it from here.
“Between the election, pandemic, and upcoming holiday season, I have felt more exhausted and stressed than ever, just like everyone else. Every day, I write stories on the devastation and division in the world. Every day, I answer hateful phone calls and messages. Every day (including weekends), my team works hours of overtime to fill the vacancies we have on our staff. It’s hard and discouraging, more often than not. I am producing different shows and working different shifts this week, while trying to help coordinate two different Christmas shows. All of that to say, journalists need your prayers. My team needs your prayers. I’m thankful for how much they have sacrificed and how well we’ve come together to comfort each other this year.”
She is among the many reasons I am proud to be in “the media.”
