I attended a wedding over the weekend, and it provides a happy update to a couple of sad stories we’ve experienced together during the past few years. Everybody’s radio friend Bill “Dex” Poindexter exchanged vows with Rosa Shell Martin. They have so much in common. They have both experienced grief, each losing their spouse.
As documented in the stories I’ve linked to below, Dex lost his wife of 41 years, Sheila, quite suddenly just before Christmas 2012. Rosa lost her husband Ben “Bearman” Martin, after a lengthy illness in 2014.
Dex and Bearman worked together for many years at US-101. With Ken Hicks, Bearman was part of a top-rated morning team for almost twenty years. Dex, along with the late David Earl Hughes, and now Melissa “Mo” Turner Wagner, is a mainstay of the afternoon show, and a member of both the Tennessee and Country Radio Halls of Fame.
The Walker County Civic Center was packed on Saturday with friends and family of Rosa and Dex. It was a feel-good ceremony with both laughter and tears of joy. We all love to see our friends find happiness, especially after coping with great sorrow.
It was said that Dex and Rosa make each other laugh. I’m proud to friends with both of these special people, and I hope you’ll join me in wishing them many years of happiness.
Earlier stories are linked below:
God is amazing! He takes care of all things in time. My husband divorced me in 1980 and the Lord did not send the right man for me for 32 years later. Praise the Lord for his goodness!!!!
I’m very happy for them both, it truly gives every person hope, they are both wonderful people I wish them a forever happiness and smiles.
Congratulations! The Lord puts people where they are supposed to be! After 10 yrs of marriage, a divorce, then being a single mom for 6 years, God gave me the most amazing man 15 years ago. It’s true….
ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT!
Congratulations to you both. I raise a glass to many blessed years god is good and you both have special guardian angels watching over you
What a fun and happy event it was. Good for both of them.
